Starting A New Chapter In Your Life
We all know when it comes to getting a tattoo you don’t really have to have a reason to get one, you get one because you want one. Well it seems that a lot of people get tattoos to mark chapters in their life. The reason I bring this up is that my sister is going trough a rough divorce right now and she really wants to get a tattoo to free herself from everything that she is going through. Also because she is literally starting a whole new scary chapter of her life not knowing what is ahead of her. I of course encourage her to get one if that’s what she really wants to do.
I personally think that if a tattoo helps you get over a tough place in your life and the tattoo will help you move on than more power to you. We all heal in different ways and strangely enough if something as simple as some ink on your skin can help you heal then by all means ink yourself up until your heart is content. Of course I might have gotten myself into a little bit of trouble by encouraging her to get a tattoo because she really wants to me to go with her and get one myself. If you are a regular here you know that my husband doesn’t really care for them so out of respect of him I’m not getting another one. But I will admit if I do go with her to get her first tattoo it will be very hard to resist the powers of the tattoo gun and not getting another one for myself.

Do Tattoos Help People Get Over The Loss Of A Loved One
It has became fairly popular and a lot more common for people who have lost a loved one or a dear friend to get something tattooed on their body in remembrance of that person. Whether it be a picture of them something they drew or even their name. To my surprise, I have found out that memorial tattoos as they are called are lot more popular than one may think. One tattoo artists claim that 20 to 30% of his business is memorial tattoos. Of course it is being reported that most of the clients that get these memorial tattoo are teenagers and young adults
As you can imagine several Psychologists don’t recommend this form of healing to a lot of people. They claim that it can help a particular person with the grieving process but later on in life they might regret their impulse decision to get this memorial tattoo of theirs. And if it is something that you are dead set on you need to put a lot of thought and consideration into it.
Lenny Welch a tattoo artist, who runs Addicted 2 Tattoos on North Florida Avenue, had this to say about memorial tattoos
“It gives a person something to look at. It keeps a memory alive. They don’t want to forget them, and they think it does them honor when they put something permanent on their bodies
I personally think if an individual wants to get a tattoo to remind them of a loved one they should, especially if it will help them grieve the loss of that person. After all people get tattoos from themselves not for other people. So who cares what these Psychologists think anyways.

A Less Painful Way To Get Rid Of Tattoos
I am super shocked about this, apparently there is a new way for you to get rid of an unwanted tattoo. And it does not included going to several laser removal sessions. I have just read an article claiming that there is a cream that can be injecting into your tattoo and it will literally push out the ink to the surface of your skin and will leave your skin scar free and have no evidence of a tattoo every being there.
Supposedly, there are some cosmetic surgeons that say they can get rid of the ink by injecting your skin with a cream which softens the ink and pushes it to the surface. And within six to eight weeks after a scab falls off the ink from your tattoo falls off with it and you are left with non noticeable tattoo free skin.
Some experts claim that this new procedure has been used here in the United States and that it is much cheaper and a lot less painful than the laser removal option and it also has little to no scarring compared to laser removal.
This new treatment is currently being done in London. Stuart Harrison, director of Oxford Skin Clinics, said: “This works by using the body’s natural processes. The reason the tattoo stays there is that a coating is put around the link to protect it from the body’s immune response.
“But this cream makes the ink identifiable to the body so that it realises the ink is there and starts rejecting it and healing itself.”
Sturwart also added how the process feels,
“It is uncomfortable rather than painful, but it is less painful than having the tattoo itself and certainly a lot less painful than having laser treatment.
So if you have any unwanted tattoos on your body maybe you should look into this procedure.

Celebrity Tattoos: Jessica Alba
I will admit I really don’t recall every seeing Jessica Alba’s tattoos before and come to find out she has at least three that I could find. She has a wrist tattoo that is in the Sanskrit word “Padma” which means
lotus flower. In Hinduism, it is the symbol of spiritual development. It is the symbol of the manifestation of beauty and mental purity (the ability to rise above) – for although it has its roots in the mud of ponds and lakes, it raises its flower in immaculate beauty above the surface of the water. She also has a tattoo of a daisy with a ladybug on it on the back of her neck and a bow on her lower back. I could not find a suitable picture of her neck tattoo, so you will just have to take my word that she does indeed have one back there.
I do find this rather interesting that Jessica could have these tattoos in these fairly noticeable places and practically get away without hardly any people noticing that she even has three tattoos. Which I think is genius. So if you are wanting to get a tattoo and don’t want to it be too noticeable then maybe you should follow Jessica Alba’s footsteps and get your tattoos in the places that she has them.
Jessica did open up about her latest tattoo which is of a ladybug and daisy on her neck. She said that her mom, aunt and her all went out and got tattoos one day as a “bonding experience.” And all three of them got different ladybug tattoos.

Are Tattoos Still Taboo?
Some of you reading this might not think tattoos are taboo at all, as a matter of fact I feel the same way. But I have been reading a lot of articles lately about tattoos and I’m starting to wonder myself if tattoos are really as excepted as we all think they are. There is no doubt that tattooing has become extremely popular over the past couple of years even decades. But there are still a lot of people out there that consider them trashy, inappropriate and not acceptable.
For instance, I have read several articles in the past few days warning people if the have a noticeable or tattoo that can not be covered up not to even think about applying for jobs. Of course these jobs are usually with the state or government. But still this goes to show that people are serious about thinking tattoos are inappropriate. Also I read an article last week involving some school that is strongly trying to enforce and get a rule passed at a high school that students can not have tattoos and if they do they have to remain covered up at all times. There are even some night clubs in the United States that are banning people from entering the club if the have a noticeable tattoo. These clubs claim they are having gang problems and that’s the only way they think they can control them from not coming in there is be banning anyone with a tattoo. Of course this is making locals and regulars very unhappy with the club.
So even though the tattoo community has come a long way from where they were, it seems we’ve still got a ways to go.

How Tattoos Work

One might ask themselves how in the world does a tattoo stay on your skin forever? I mean, I’m pretty sure that most people are aware that we as human shed are skin all the time. So one might wonder how does the ink from our tattoos never fall off as well. Well in this post I will explain the whole process of how and why tattoos stay on our skin forever.
First you should know that a tattoo needle punctures you skin up to 50 to 3,00 times a minute when getting a tattoo. The tattoo needle punctures the cells of the dermis which is the second layer of the skin. Our skin consists of three layers: the epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissues. The epidermis, is the outer layer of skin that acts as a protective barrier and contains no blood vessels. Below the epidermis, is a thicker layer called dermis and that is where tattoos go.
Since we as humans are constatlly sheding the top layer of our epidermis, tattoo artists push ink through the epidermis and leave it in the dermis. The dermis pretty much stays the same throughtout our lifetime, hince the reason why tattoos are so permanant.
However, there is a science to tattooing, you have to be extra cautious that you only penetrate the skin 1.5 mm. If you go any further than that you will reach the subcutaneous layer and you don’t want to do this. It will more than likely be extra painful, bleed more and your tattoo will end up being blurry. Of course there are places on your body that need to be penetrated deeper and other places that don’t need to be penetrated as deep. A skilled tattoo artist knows the depths and boundaries on how far to penetrate your skin.

Tattoo’s And MRI’s Don’t Mix
This surprised the heck out of me when I read this article. It is claiming that people who have tattoos more so black ink tattoos need to take some extra precaution when getting an MRI done. I’m pretty sure we all know that an MRI is a diagnostic test that uses a magnetic field and radio waves that creates a very informed cross-sectional image of your body. Well it has been reported that people are experiencing burns in tattooed areas more so in black ink or darker tattoos. However, it is unknown how often this strange occurrence happens.
Some research has been done on this matter and the only thing that has been determined is that they suspect the burns are related to iron oxide. Apparently, dark ink tattoos have iron oxide in them which is potentially magnetic. Since it conducts electricity this causes the iron oxide to heat up during an MRI and causes some burns to occur.
So if you are scheduled for an MRI and you have black or dark ink tattoos be sure to tell you doctor about this and discuss any concerns you may have. More than likely you will be just fine and the benefit from the MRI will probably outweigh the concerns you have for your tattoos. To reduce the possibility of your tattoo burning your doctor may suggest to put an ice pack or cool compresses over your tattoo during the actually MRI to be safe.
So it just goes to show that your body art can cause more problems that you are aware of.

Make Sure You Can Cover Them Up

One of the first things that I made sure of when I got my first tattoo is that I would be able to cover it up if it needed to be covered up. Of course whenever I wear a tank top and or low cut dress you can see my tattoo on my shoulder. But the reason I bring this up is, a lot and I mean a lot of businesses do not allow you to have a visible tattoo. You would think this day in time things would different but it’s still considered taboo to have a visible tattoo at a place of business.
So my advice to you is to think really hard about the location of your tattoo. You may not be concerned about the location being visible or not when you are a teenager. But when you are thrown out there in the real world and have to get a big boy or big girl job you might be regretting that tattoo you got on your lower arm, hands, neck, wrist or any other place that can not easily be covered up by clothing. Remember there is a time and a place to flaunt your tattoo and when you are dealing with high end clients or any customer you don’t want them getting distracted by your tattoo no matter how cool it may be. So try to think super hard about your tattoo location before you get inked. You never know you may end up in a very high position at a company when you get older and you will probably feel foolish if you have a visible tattoo on your neck, wrist, or hands.

Talk To People

One of my favorite things to do is to talk to people who already have tattoos and learn about their experience. I also like to hear any funny stories they might have to share as well as some piece of information that I may not have known. Just yesterday I was talking to one of my sister’s friends that has a tattoo on her toe and I actually learned something. She told me that it took her a long time to actually find a tattoo parlor that would actually tattoo her toe. The reason being is the when you have a tattoo on your foot/toe it tends to fade super super quickand some tattoo artists feel that it is a waste to tattoo an area that will fade very quickly. I will say that her tat is extremely faded and that it doesn’t even look real. It looks like she took an ink pen and colored a daisy on her big toe.
So my whole point of this post is to simple talk to people who have tats and of course talk to tattoo artists. You never know what you will learn from the conversation that you can take with you and can share with another person. Although I’m pretty sure if you get a tattoo on your foot and or toe in black ink it won’t fade as fast, but I could be wrong. I know two people who have tattoos on their feet both are in color and they both are pretty faded.

Celebrity Tattoos: Megan Fox
The beautiful Transformers star is a avid tattoo lover and has several of her own. A lot of people may not understand her tattoos and I’ve read a lot of people think they are tacky. But people don’t get tattoos for other people they get them for themselves and I’m sure every tattoo that Megan has, has a special meaning to her.
Megan tattoos include:
A portrait of Marilyn Monroe on her right forearm, star and crescent moon on her right leg, symbol for strength on the back of her neck, a Shakespeare quote on her back, some tribal symbols, and a “Brian” on her stomach, as well as a poem she wrote that’s on her ribcage.
Megan does have some regrets about one of her tattoos.
“She regrets the “tribal” tat. She said, “The guy was smoking weed while he tattooed me and he didn’t do it correctly. Now it’s nothing and I’m gonna get it removed. I was told he was a really amazing tattoo artist but he wasn’t on his game that night. He was distracted.”
This is what Megan had to say about getting tattoos in general.
“Every time I get a tattoo, it’s a little f-you to anyone who tells me not to. It’s weird to be part of Hollywood, which tries to control every aspect of people, from what they say to the color of their hair. And I like the way getting a tattoo feels. If I’m depressed, it’s nice to get one and deal with the pain. I have one all the way down to my ribs. It hurt, but it felt good–like twisting a loose tooth. I’m not kidding when I say that if I ever lose a role because of my tattoos, I’ll quit Hollywood and go to work at Costco.”
