Be In The Right Frame Of Mind When Getting A Tattoo

August 13, 2009 at 3:46 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , )

armtat

If you do your research about tattoos you will find that a lot of people state that you need to be in the right frame of mind before you go out and get inked. Getting tattooed is a very serious thing and should never be decided on the spur of the moment, those tattoos almost always end up being a regret or a “what the heck was I thinking” tattoo. If you don’t want to fall in that category than listen up.

First and foremost you should put some serious thought into making the decision to get a tattoo. Flying by the seat of your pants when it comes to getting ink isn’t a very good idea. Tattoos need to be thought out and researched. Secondly, you need to make sure you are in the right state of mind. Getting a tattoo because you are mad at someone and want to do something to rub in their face is no reason to get a tattoo. Moreover, you need to make sure you are alcohol and drug free, those two elements do not mix well when one is getting a tattoo. They can cause you to bleed more and cause the healing process to take longer or complications to occur during the healing process. Lastly, being in the right state of mind will help you be able to cope with the pain better. When you sit down to get your body art¬† you should be well rested, in good health, and clear headed. It is also important not get a tattoo when you are depressed or having just experience something traumatic or life changing.

Do Your Research On A Tattoo Artist

August 11, 2009 at 3:35 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

marilyntat

If you are a tattoo virgin and do not have a tattoo artist that you regularly go to than you should most definitely do your research on a tattoo artist. There are hundreds of tattoos artists out there but some are better than others. For instance some tattoo artists specialize in certain kinds of tattoos. Take portrait tattoos, these tattoos are very hard to do. Not just any one can draw a picture of a real live person on your skin. This kind of tattoo takes a lot of training and experience. Portrait tattoos are one of the most difficult to do and not ever tattoo artist can pull them off.

So if you have your heart set on getting a portrait tattoo do your research first and talk to your tattoo artist and see if they feel comfortable doing one. Also don’t be shy, look through their tattoo book of people they have tattooed before. Not only will this ease your mind that they are competent but it will also give you an idea of what kind of tattoo they excel at. If your tattoo artist does not feel comfortable doing a portrait tattoo then don’t be afraid to ask them to recommend someone they feel would do the job better. More than likely there will be someone in the tattoo shop that specializes in these tattoos so you won’t have to leave to comfort of your tattoo shop. If no one has experience with them in the shop simply ask for a recommendation of another artist.

Just remember when trying to find a tattoo artist you need to make sure you see pictures of their work or know someone who has been tattooed by them. There is nothing worse than getting a bad quality tattoo.

Tattoos No Longer A Boys Club

August 10, 2009 at 1:36 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

women_tattoo

When tattoos first came about it was nearly unheard of for women to have them. Tattoos really started to thrive in the military. Sailors would dawn their bodies with tattoos to show where they had been, what part of the service they were in, and so on and so forth. However, for a women back in those times to have a tattoo they were just considered a freak. In fact the only women who had tattoos back in those times were women who where in the circus. Well years have passed and tattoos have come a very long way. Now men are not the only ones allowed to have some body art on their skin. It is safe to say that the same amount of women go out and get tattoos as men and if it’s the not the same it’s pretty close.

However, it seems that it is completely okay for a women to get a tattoo but it’s another story for a women to give a tattoo. There are quite a few women tattoo artists out there but not nearly as many as their are men. Could this be because men artist are making it difficult for them to get into the tattoo business or because less women are interested in becoming a tattoo artist? Whatever the reason is, women are still looked down upon more than men if they do have body art. Women are thought of as being these pure, innocent creatures and having a tattoo is just considered inappropriate . This is probably why more women than men have their tattoos removed and seem to have more regrets about their tattoos.

Hurry Up And Wait

August 8, 2009 at 11:38 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

girl-tattoos

When someone makes up their mind to get a tattoo the first thing they want to do is rush out to the nearest tattoo parlor, studio or shop and get their desired ink. Well this sudden urge could make for a huge regret later on down the road. Tattoos are a very serious thing, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. They are in fact permanent, so if you wake up one day and say, I don’t want this thing any more there is no taking some soap and water it to and rubbing it off. This is why it is so important to think things through when it comes to a tattoo.

Believe it or not more people than you think, think about their tattoos for years sometimes. It is completely normal to go through phases when thinking about getting a tattoo. You want it, you think no I don’t want it, then you want it again. It’s best to just wait and see how your feel about something than rushing into a life long commitment and having regrets about it later on down the road. There is nothing worse than having to live with an unwanted tattoo.

So when you are thinking about getting a tattoo, whether it be your first or twentieth, give it some thought and think about it and think about it some more. Don’t just rush out and get inked every time you have the urge to. If you did this you will more than likely be covered in several tattoos that you will not like or want in a few years. Just like the old saying goes, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Don’t Be A Victim To Fad Tattoos

August 6, 2009 at 4:01 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

twilight-6

When one decides to get a tattoo is can be a hard decision, there are so many tattoo designs to pick from it is really hard to decide which one is for you and which one you fell you can live with for the rest of your life. This is why it is so very important to put a lot of thought to this decision. One of the worst things you can do is go out and get a fad tattoo. Fad tattoos are something that is really popular at the time you get them but don’t necessarily stand up to the test of time because like any fad they come and go. Since tattoos are permanent and you can’t just rub it off when you don’t want it anymore it’s best to pick a tattoo design that means something special to you and that you will never regret.

Believe it or not some people do get fad tattoos just for the sake of having them and don’t think about to repercussions later on down the road. For instance, Twilight exploded onto the bookshelves and now the big screen and it a very popular series. That doesn’t mean you should rush out a get a tattoo of Edward Cullen on your body. Unfortunately, a lot of people are doing this and in a few years when the hysteria of Twilight dies down these people will probably be asking themselves why they got these tattoos. Another big fad that is going on is people are getting tattoos of celebrities children, this is just plain ridiculous. These kids have nothing to do with you or your life so it is best to stay away from this fad.

The moral of the story is put some serious thought into your tattoo design don’t get something that is very popular now and won’t be a in a few years. It’s also wise to stay away from tattoos of celebrities. A lot of celebrities come and go and can’t last in Hollywood and you would feel really stupid if you had one of them tattooed on you.

Tattoo Removal

July 30, 2009 at 12:31 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

joel

We are all taught at a very young age that tattoos are forever and that you better be darn sure that you can live with your tattoo for the rest of your life. While this is great information and should be followed when thinking about getting a tattoo, it isn’t necessarily true. There are ways to get that unwanted tattoo removed, granted all of the procedures that are used are time consuming, expensive and painful. Also people should know that insurance will not help pay for it so you will have to pay for everything out of your own pocket. So one should not go into getting a tattoo with the thought of, Oh I can get it removed later if I don’t want it anymore. You should save yourself the money, time and pain and just not get a tattoo in the first place.

The three methods that are used to remove unwanted tattoos are as follows:

  • Laser surgery. Laser tattoo removal is the most common procedure that people go through to reduce the appearance of a tattoo. How it works is pulses of laser light pass through the top layer of skin where the light’s energy is absorbed by the tattoo pigment. This then creates a very low grade inflammation and allows your body to process the small areas of altered pigment. You will require several session to get rid of your tattoo or lighten it up enough to were it is barely noticeable. But people should know that this process might not completely erase your tattoo.
  • Dermabrasion. The process is done when the tattooed area is chilled until numb, once the skin is numb the tattooed area is sanded down. As you can imagine this process is very painful and will more than likely cause some scarring.
  • Surgical removal. Just like with anything a doctor can surgically cut out your unwanted tattoo and literally stitch the edges of your skin back together. However, this will more than likely leave a scar as well.

The best piece of advice is just to pick out a tattoo you can live with the rest of your life. Getting the tattoo removed is more painful and costly than actually getting the tattoo.

Can Tattoo Artist Help You Spot Skin Cancer?

July 25, 2009 at 12:25 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Tattooart

Most people look down upon tattoo artist and believe that they live rough and out of control lives. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, they may like to party a little more and have a good time, but where’s the crime in that? The truth of the matter is, tattoo artist are not dumb people and it takes a lot of skill to be able to ” draw” on someones skin. Not just anybody can pick up a tattoo gun and give a good quality tattoo. It seems that some Dermatologists feel tattoo artist can actually help customers spot skin cancer. They would like to offer a class to tattoo artists that can educate them in skin cancer and learn how to recognize a pre-cancerous legion. There are three kinds of cancerous legions they would like for them to learn to spot, basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma.

Of course these dermatologists realize that these tattoo artists are not doctor’s and really don’t have the authority to tell their customers it could be cancer. But they feel that since they work so closely with people’s skin that it would be great if they could give their client a heads up if they spotted something that looked questionable. They advice the tattoo artist’s to recommend to their customers to see a doctor and get it checked out and even go as far as saying they won’t tattoo them until they get checked out.

By these dermatologists having so much faith in tattoo artist it kind of gives the tattoo community some hope that maybe people will change their minds about the tattoo world, especially if they start saving lives!

The Law Is Cracking Down On Tattoo Shops

July 20, 2009 at 8:51 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

tattooing

A lot of people kind of brush of this kind of thing but there has been a huge problem here lately with tattoo shops, parlors or studios operating without a license and tattooing underage people. Some may think this is no big deal but it is a huge deal. Rhianna is even in some trouble for tattooing her friends at the tattoo shop she frequents all the time in New York because she is not a license tattoo artist. Tattooing is an art and not just anyone can pick up a tattoo gun and give a tattoo. It takes a lot of training and trail and error before an artist is ready to tattoo people. Not to mention all the health risks that are involved. Officials are even cracking down on people who tattoo out of their home. There are so many things that are wrong with this. For one they more than likely do not have the proper sterilizing equipment in their house and they don’t have the machine there to copy the tattoo design onto transfer paper, thus leaving them to free hand which is a very scary thing because if they mess up there is nothing that can be done.

This is why it is so very important for you to make darn sure that the tattoo shop, parlor or studio that you use is operating under the laws in your state. Every state has different laws when it comes to tattooing. However, they all should have some sort of license and should have been inspected by the health department and most important there should be an autoclave on site that is sterilizing the tattooing equipment.

Two Things That Should Be Thought About Before Getting A Tattoo

July 16, 2009 at 3:12 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

cute-butterfly-tattoos

When it comes to thinking about getting a tattoo there are a lot of mistakes that people can make. This is why it is so very important to do your research and think about all your options before you go out and get inked. Tattoos are something that should be taken seriously and is something that should not be decided one night while hanging out with a group of friends. Never pull a “Hey wouldn’t it be great if we all went out and got a tattoo” when you are hanging around a bunch of friends and alcohol is involved. Deciding to get a tattoo is a decision that should be made sober and is a decision that should be given a lot of thought too.

There are several mistakes that a lot of people make when it comes to getting a tattoo. One of the most common mistakes is that people don’t get the correct size of a tattoo. While bigger might not always be better when it comes to a tattoo a lot of people tend to get tattoos too small. This can cause a problem because the quality maybe poor or when you get older it might just look like a blab of a mess. So don’t go too small but don’t go too big either. Also the location on your body is a key factor of your tattoo. Don’t get a really small tattoo on a big part of your body, it will look out of place.

A second common mistake people make is that they don’t give their tattoo design too much thought. It is a good idea to keep your options open and don’t just pick out the first butterfly you see or whatever design you are wanting. Give it some thought and look at several designs then make a choice.
