Tattoos No Longer A Boys Club

When tattoos first came about it was nearly unheard of for women to have them. Tattoos really started to thrive in the military. Sailors would dawn their bodies with tattoos to show where they had been, what part of the service they were in, and so on and so forth. However, for a women back in those times to have a tattoo they were just considered a freak. In fact the only women who had tattoos back in those times were women who where in the circus. Well years have passed and tattoos have come a very long way. Now men are not the only ones allowed to have some body art on their skin. It is safe to say that the same amount of women go out and get tattoos as men and if it’s the not the same it’s pretty close.

However, it seems that it is completely okay for a women to get a tattoo but it’s another story for a women to give a tattoo. There are quite a few women tattoo artists out there but not nearly as many as their are men. Could this be because men artist are making it difficult for them to get into the tattoo business or because less women are interested in becoming a tattoo artist? Whatever the reason is, women are still looked down upon more than men if they do have body art. Women are thought of as being these pure, innocent creatures and having a tattoo is just considered inappropriate . This is probably why more women than men have their tattoos removed and seem to have more regrets about their tattoos.

Can Tattoo Artist Help You Spot Skin Cancer?

July 25, 2009 at 12:25 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Tattooart

Most people look down upon tattoo artist and believe that they live rough and out of control lives. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, they may like to party a little more and have a good time, but where’s the crime in that? The truth of the matter is, tattoo artist are not dumb people and it takes a lot of skill to be able to ” draw” on someones skin. Not just anybody can pick up a tattoo gun and give a good quality tattoo. It seems that some Dermatologists feel tattoo artist can actually help customers spot skin cancer. They would like to offer a class to tattoo artists that can educate them in skin cancer and learn how to recognize a pre-cancerous legion. There are three kinds of cancerous legions they would like for them to learn to spot, basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma.

Of course these dermatologists realize that these tattoo artists are not doctor’s and really don’t have the authority to tell their customers it could be cancer. But they feel that since they work so closely with people’s skin that it would be great if they could give their client a heads up if they spotted something that looked questionable. They advice the tattoo artist’s to recommend to their customers to see a doctor and get it checked out and even go as far as saying they won’t tattoo them until they get checked out.

By these dermatologists having so much faith in tattoo artist it kind of gives the tattoo community some hope that maybe people will change their minds about the tattoo world, especially if they start saving lives!

Tattoos In The Workplace Becoming Less Taboo

July 23, 2009 at 2:19 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

biztattoo1

Every since tattoos have been around people automatically deem them inappropriate in the workplace. However, this negative stereotype might actually be loosing up a little bit. Tattoos are still a major problem for some industries and companies but some are starting to realize that just because an employee has a tattoo it doesn’t mean they can’t perform their job well. They also realize that their clients don’t have a problem with the tattoos and it has no effect on them doing business with them. But on the flip side, some jobs still consider them a taboo and very inappropriate. Lawyers for instance are looked upon as being very professional and most clients expect them to be professional and to dress in a professional way. Of course this doesn’t mean they can’t have tattoos, it just means they are discreet about them and cover them up.

There was actually a huge discussion held over the weekend entitled, Tattoos and Professionalism. Several business minded people showed up as well as some tattoo artist. This panel discussed whether or not people should be able to show off their tattoos in the work place. A Vice President of an advertising company admitted that their clients come to them because of their creativity and they have never heard of their employees tattoos being an issue with their client. After all tattoos are just like looks in a way. You shouldn’t judge someone because of their age, size, race or religious beliefs and the same should be said about tattoos. None of the above things have anything to do with a persons capability to do a job and do it well.

The Law Is Cracking Down On Tattoo Shops

July 20, 2009 at 8:51 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

tattooing

A lot of people kind of brush of this kind of thing but there has been a huge problem here lately with tattoo shops, parlors or studios operating without a license and tattooing underage people. Some may think this is no big deal but it is a huge deal. Rhianna is even in some trouble for tattooing her friends at the tattoo shop she frequents all the time in New York because she is not a license tattoo artist. Tattooing is an art and not just anyone can pick up a tattoo gun and give a tattoo. It takes a lot of training and trail and error before an artist is ready to tattoo people. Not to mention all the health risks that are involved. Officials are even cracking down on people who tattoo out of their home. There are so many things that are wrong with this. For one they more than likely do not have the proper sterilizing equipment in their house and they don’t have the machine there to copy the tattoo design onto transfer paper, thus leaving them to free hand which is a very scary thing because if they mess up there is nothing that can be done.

This is why it is so very important for you to make darn sure that the tattoo shop, parlor or studio that you use is operating under the laws in your state. Every state has different laws when it comes to tattooing. However, they all should have some sort of license and should have been inspected by the health department and most important there should be an autoclave on site that is sterilizing the tattooing equipment.

Tattoo Business Still Thriving

July 14, 2009 at 2:22 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , )

tattoos

With the crazy state the United States economy is in right now and with people loosing their jobs and having to foreclose on their homes. It is a surprises that the tattoo business has not seen a fall in business but rather an increase. Many tattoo parlors, shops and studios are reporting that since the economy started going down hill their business has not been effected and that their business is actually growing. Well it seems that this is still true as we enter the summer months. Tattoo shop owner’s are still reporting that they have not seen a dip in business. So this has a lot of people wondering how the tattoo business can still be thriving at a time like this.

That indeed is the million dollar question that even the tattoo shop owners don’t really know the answer either. Some say its because people are investing in things for themselves and what better way to invest in some really great artwork on your skin. Granted you will never be able to sell it to get some money back like you would with traditional artwork but none the less it is a great way to mark an interesting chapter in your life. Another possible reason is that people are simply saving their money and putting a lot of thought into their tattoo. Also more often than not people who get tattoos are mostly in their teenage years and young twenties. And it seems those age brackets don’t seem to have been as effected by the economy as a white collar business man or woman in their late twenties and thirties.

Cocoa Beach Getting Strict On Tattoo Parlors

July 13, 2009 at 11:31 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

tattooshop

A lot of towns and communities have problems with there being tattoo parlors in certain parts of town, because they feel it ruins the images of the town or community and attract the wrong crowd. Which if these people would just open up their eyes they would see that tattoos are not so taboo anymore and that not just rowdy bikers, criminals and up to no good people get tattoos. The average person to get a tattoo is a stay at home mom, a soccer mom, a business man and retired people. With that being said Cocoa Beach doesn’t seem to realize this. They are going through the proper procedures to make it a law that such businesses as tattoo parlors and piercing facilities to be separated by more than 2,000 feet and restrict them to certain areas, a move that follows efforts in recent years to make the city a more family-oriented beach destination.

The tattoo parlors themselves are not very upset about this new law trying to be passed but they feel that they have every right to be in business just as much as anyone else. If there is a need to for tattoo parlors and people are coming in and getting tattoos then obviously there is a need for the community to have a tattoo parlor or two. Cocoa Beach feels that tattoos bring in a rowdy crowd and they don’t want that brought into their family oriented place.

In all honesty it won’t attract these “rowdy people” and if  people have a problem with tattoo parlors then they should just simply stay away from them. Tattoo parlors do not cause harm to communities they help them. It’s not like they tattoo artist are standing outside the shop trying to solicit people to come in.

Tattoos Have Come A Long Way

June 30, 2009 at 2:25 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

sexy_tattoos_23

Tattoos have certainly come a very long way over the last couple of decades. However, there is still some work that needs to be done to prove to people that tattoos are not bad, evil and negative. Yes once upon a time the only people to dawn tattoos were bikers, sailors, criminals, and rock stars. Well times have changed and tattoos are no longer as taboo as they once where.

Perhaps, influential celebrities that have tattoos have helped this or it could be the many tattoo reality shows that are out there like, Miami Ink, LA Ink, Inked, and the new Tattoo Highway. All of these shows give people a glimpse inside the tattoo world and prove to people, that tattoo artist as well as people who get tattoos are not bad people. Since tattoos have become so mainstream in the last couple of years there is a new trend in the decor world, tattoos. There are several new lines of plates, mugs, bowls and platters  that are being influenced by tattoo style. Gucci is even getting on tattoo  bandwagon. They have a new line of handbags called the “Tattoo Heart Collection” Tattoos are exploding into the decor, home furniture and fashion world.

It is safe to say that tattoos are not going anywhere and people who are tattoo haters need to get over that. Tattoos are simply getting more and more popular as the years go on. After all 1 in 4 people between the ages of 18 to 50 have a tattoo. That is an amazing number, considering there are so many people out there that think tattoos are evil.

Cleanliness Is Not A Laughing Matter

June 25, 2009 at 2:35 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

tattooing

When it comes to getting a tattoo, cleanliness is no laughing matter. Many may think it’s not that big of a deal to make sure the tattoo parlor or studio that you are using is following the proper health codes and using proper sterilizing equipment. This is no laughing matter. If a tattoo parlor or tattoo studio does not use to correct sterilizing equipment and does not follow the proper health codes you could very easily end up with HIV or hepatitis.

Well respected tattoo artists are urging people to be extra cautious when it comes to getting a tattoo. These extra precautions have been brought up because Zipp’s Tattoo parlour in Edmonton, was closed don due to unsanitary conditions. Also heath officials are encouraging anyone who got tattoo at this tattoo parlor to go out and get an HIV or hepatitis test immediately. Zipp’s Tattoo parlor was using unsterilized instruments, as well as not using enough  antiseptic and there was evidence of them giving tattoos to animals in the studio.

Tattoo artist urge tattoo seekers to evaluate the tattoo studio you are visiting and to ask questions about how they sterilize their equipment. Another no brainier is to make sure the tattoo artist is wearing some sort of disposable rubber glove. Another great tip to make sure they are using clean ink with you. Tattoo artist should pour a small amount of ink into a little cup to use for your tattoo session. Well respected tattoo artist also say to stay away from scratchers – people who give low-cost tattoos out of their homes. Not only can you not be certain about how clean their equipment is you may not be able to see how good of a job they do.

Would You Get A Tattoo If It Was Free?

June 10, 2009 at 8:47 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Tattoo_Girl

A lot of people have their reasons for not having tattoos, for some it’s because they don’t like them, they are afraid of needles, they don’t know what design to get and simply because they are rather expensive. So that’ raises the question if you could get a tattoo for free would you get one? This is an excellent question and there really isn’t a right or wrong answer to it. Of course the old saying of  “You get what you pay for” is a good saying to live by. However, there are some exceptions to the rule. Some tattoo parlors or studios do hold special events at their place of business which sometime include a free tattoo. If you are a tattoo virgin and really want a tattoo keep your eye and ears open for a tattoo parlor or studio in your area to see if they are holding such an event.

Some tattoo parlors have special fund raiser for this. Some require you to give a donation to the human society or to an animal shelter, while others require a donation to breast cancer, and while others have a catch like you have to get your free tattoo of the number 13 or a certain band’s name. But if any of these floats your boat and is something you want then you can actually get your free tattoo. But for the most part if the tattoo you are getting doesn’t cost that much, you should raise an eyebrow and think twice about getting it. It’s always best to see work that your tattoo artist has done to make sure they do good quality work. If they do and then make decision from there. And most important never, never ask for a discount on a tattoo. You will not get one, not unless you are a repeat customer or a good friend.
