Sunscreen For Your Tattoo

April 30, 2009 at 2:33 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

cartoon_sun

If you are new to the tattoo world you need to know that your tattoo’s number one enemy is the sun. It is very important to stay out of the sun and avoid direct sunlight for at least one month after getting inked. After your tattoo is healed it is highly recommended to put a very high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo to help protect it from the suns rays. However, while putting sunscreen on your tattoo is better than nothing it isn’t 100 percent designed to help protect the ink in your tattoo.

When you are out in the sun and your tattoo is exposed to the sun, the sun causes the ink in your tattoo to break down, which in return causes fading, cracking, and image distortion. Even if you limit your exposure to the sun your tattoo can begin to look lighter and less vibrant. While traditional sunscreens protect your skin from burning, they are not designed to protect tattoo ink. Tattooed people can rest a little easier now. There is a new tattoo product coming to the market that is designed especially to protect your tattoo from the sun. It is called Tattoo Armor. Their first product is the Precision Sunscreen Pen that will soon be available. It is as small as a ink pen and the pen has a small brush tip that makes application easy. The Precision Sunscreen pen also is formulated to dry quick and be less messy.

Please note that this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put sunscreen on your tattoo. Every tattoo artist out there will tell you to protect your tattoo from the sun and to always wear a high SPF sunscreen. Never go out in the sun without applying sunscreen to your tattoo.

The Octo Mom Gets Inked

April 28, 2009 at 2:33 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

nayda

Ever since Nadya Suleman gave birth to her octuplets the media is constantly all over her. Not only does she have the only living set of octuplets but she also has 6 other children putting her total at 14. She doesn’t have a job and hasn’t for sometime and she isn’t married let alone seeing anyone. She receives constant criticisms from society because of bringing her octuplets into the world even though she already had 6 children. She is also ridiculed for being a bad mother and trying to cash in on her instant fame, even though she is always denying she doesn’t want to be in the spotlight.

Then there is her uncanny resemblance to the beautiful Angelina Jolie, the big pouty lips, the long straight black hair and of course her 14 children. However, Nadya insists that she has always looked this way but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Earlier pictures of Nadya have proved that she hasn’t always had those pouty lips. Well Nadya has now added something else to compare her to the lovely Angelina Jolie. Nadya got herself a tattoo over the weekend. She didn’t go the same route as Angelina and get the longitude/latitude coordinates of the birthplaces of all her children inked on her arm. Instead Nadya got a tattoo on her back. She travelled quite a distance to Kustom Kulture in Hollywood to get her ink. She got a fairly large angel on her back that is surrounded by 14 stars. Of course it is being assumed that the Angel is Nadya and the 14 stars represent her 14 children.

Don’t Make These Tattoo Mistakes

April 25, 2009 at 8:48 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

misstat

When one decides on getting a tattoo there are a lot of mistakes that can be made and a lot of people do make mistakes. With that being said, it is clearly ok to make a mistake, no one is perfect after all, but when the mistake happens with a tattoo things get can get a little complicateded. So if you do not want to fall victim to making one of the deadly tattoo mistakes following these steps below and you should have a pleasant tattoo experience and shouldn’t experience a tattoo mistake.

* First and foremost you need to be in the right state of mind when you get a tattoo. Contrary to what some believe getting a tattoo when you are drunk is not the best thing. Not only will you bleed more because of the alcohol in your system but it is pretty much guaranteed you will regret whatever you got when you sober up. Also if you are feeling depressed or sick these are not the right times to get a tattoo either.

* Secondly picking out the wrong design can be devastating. There are so many outlets available to people to choose a tattoo design it’s not funny. Don”t limit yourself to the designs offered at the tattoo parlor. Search around the internet for designs or come up with one yourself.

* Thirdly, don’t bargain hunt when it comes to a tattoo. Tattoo’s are expensive that’s just how it is. If you want a good quality tattoo that is done properly and will help up for the rest of your life you are going to have to pay for it. If you don’t think twice about spending money on a pair of fancy sunglasses or a new outfit than you should feel the same way about a tattoo. If money is an issue, then set aside some money every paycheck and save for one.

*Lastly, if you decide to get a text tattoo make darn sure that it is spelled correctly and that the tattoo artist is aware of how to spell the word or phrase you are getting. Living with a misspelled tattoo is no fun.

Take Your Tattoo For A Test Drive

April 23, 2009 at 1:52 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

temporary_tattoos_sleeves_04

When one decided to get a tattoo that is a great thing but it is also a great idea if you are still a little insure about your tattoo design to take it for a test drive. Taking your tattoo for a test drive simply means getting a temporary tattoo of the same tattoo you want or something similarand putting on your body and seeing if you can live with it and if it’s the right design for you. Picking out the right tattoo design is very important to your tattoo decision, because that design will be with you for the res of your life.

Another option one may have to take their tattoo for a test drive is getting the design you are interested in airbrushed on you.  An airbrushed tattoo is can last up to seven days. The whole purpose of doing this is just to make darn sure that you are happy with the tattoo design and that you don’t have a problem with the design the say after it is tattooed on you. A third option that one has is it buy a special kind of transfer paper that can be put into your home computer’s printer. This paper allows you to print out your desired tattoo from your home computer and apply it  to yourself like a traditional temporary tattoo. So if you wake up one or two days later after you have gotten your temporary tattoo or airbrushed tattoo and realize you just don’t like the design or it wasn’t what you thought it would be, you will have saved yourself a ton of money as well as peace of mind because you won’t have to live with the mistake for the rest of your life.

Kelly Ripa Tattoo Regret

April 21, 2009 at 3:01 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

kelly-ankle-tattoo

When one thinks of wholesome, clean cut, girl next door, Kelly Ripa the last thing that comes to their mind is that she has a tattoo. The Live With Regis and Kelly co-star does indeed have a tattoo. Kelly has a fairly noticeable rose, heart, wave tattoo on her inner left ankle. Kelly does however admit that the tattoo is a forever reminded of her youthful stupidity, ( she got the tattoo when she was 19 years old) but it also gives some tattooed people some hope.

Kelly is a very likable and well loved woman and the fact that she has a tattoo does not even cross most if not everyone mind that adores her. So why can’t this be said about regular people in the world that may have a tattoo or two. They might be as wholesome and clean cut as Kelly. However,  since their life isn’t in the spot light and people are not aware of their personality or their charitable contributions, to society they are simply looked down upon because of their body art. This is a great example of people being too judgemental. Just because someone has a tattoo doesn’t make them a bad person. You never know they might even be a better person than the person that is judging them. People need to stop and think before they voice their opinion on someone due to appearance or a tattoo. After all just like Thumper’s mother said, if you can’t say anything nice, than don’t say anything at all. If more people lived their life this way the world might be a better place.

Tattooing Race Horses

April 19, 2009 at 9:01 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , )

horsetat

The practice of tattooing thoroughbred racehorses has been around for a very long time. It is the best way for owners, officials and anyone else working closely with the race horse to properly identifiy them. It has become a custom for ever North American racehorse to get a tattoo in their upper lip same time before their first race. The tattoo is simply a series of numbers and letters that are codes for the year of birth and a unique registration number. This helps the racetrack stewards better indentify the horses.

Well now there is some good news for everyone in the race horse community. It has just been announced that owner’s of retired racehorses can now access the tattoo data base free of charge, before this people would have to pay a rather ridiculous fee. The tattoo data base helps people if their horse has become separated from their registration papers. The best news of all is that people who rescue thoroughbred race horses now will have better access to the database and they will be able to identify the horses more quickly. It will also help them be able to get in touch with the breeder or former owner if the horse has been abused, stolen or abandoned.

This just goes to show that tattoo are not all that bad. Granted these tattoos are on animals but they serve an excellent service. Now that this tattoo data base for race horses is accessible for free it will help reunite even more lost horses with their owner’s or help a batter horse find a loving home.

Tattoo Artist Have The Right To Say No

April 16, 2009 at 3:29 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

handtat2

Believe it or not tattoo artist have the right to say no when it comes to tattooing someone. However, this usually doesn’t happen too often but certain tattoo artist do refuse to tattoo certain tattoos, mainly racial tattoos, hate tattoos or gang tattoos. Tattoo artist also have the right to not tattoo a certain part of your body. If an artist says no, than you have to respect that and come up with an alternate plan or find an artist that will tattoo the body part you want tattooed.

Strangely enough some tattoo artists feel so strongly about not tattooing a certain body part that they will indeed turn down the business. So one may wonder what’s the big deal. Some tattoo artist feel that having a facial tattoo or tattoo on your hands or neck is a big responsibility and they don’t to be held responsible for their client not being able to get a job down the road or the ridicule they will have to deal with from society so some artist just refuse to do it. Also some artist don’t like tattooing feet and hands because its a quality issue. Hand and feet tattoos don’t hold up as well as other tattoos because they are constantly going through physical “abuse” because those are the two ares of your body that are under the greatest amount of physical “abuse” as a result of normal everyday life. So some artist feel its a waste of their work, they are also aware of those tattoos needing to be touched up more often than a tattoo on your ankle, back, leg or arm.

So if you run into this problem with your tattoo artist don’t get mind just try to understand they are passionate about their work.

Lindsay Lohan Gets New Ink And Regrets An Old Tattoo

April 14, 2009 at 1:56 pm (tattoo)

lindsayshhh

The trouble child star can’t really seem to catch a break now a days and several people are just waiting for her to have another melt down. Well since Lindsay and her girlfriend of nearly two years broke up Lindsay thought it would be appropriate to make the occasion with some fresh ink. It is being reported that Lindsay along with her younger sister, Ali Lohan walked into Shamrock Social Club tattoo parlor in Los Angeles at around midnight on April 8, 2009. Lindsay and Ali emerged a little later and word on the street is that Lindsay got some fresh ink on her wrist. However, the design that she got has not been released yet. This is the same tattoo parlor Lindsay and her new BFF Lily Allen go their matching Shhh…tattoos.

If you recall Lindsay Lohan also has a tattoo a matching tattoo with old girlfriend Samantha Ronson. Linsday has a small little red star on her hand. It’s nothing to noticebale or wild and crazy but Lindsay has been open about the reason she got this tattoo. Which is for all the wrong reasons. Lindsay got this tattoo because Samantha has several star tattoos on her arm and she wanted to get it to get like her.

This is yet another prime example of not getting making tattoos of a lover or coping a lover’s tattoo. Tattoos are forever and unfortunately most relationships are not. However, if you must get a tattoo to mark your relationship with someone it is best to get some kind of imaginary tattoo done rather than a name.

Get A Tattoo For You

April 11, 2009 at 8:05 am (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

tattoos

Every since the 1970’s tattoos have been slowing gaining popularity with more and more people. In 2005 an estimated 14% of people had a tattoo in 2006 it was found out that 36% of people between the ages of  18 and 29 have a tattoo and 40% of people from that ages 18 to 40 have a tattoo. With the numbers growing everyday and some of the most beloved celebrities and athletes dawning them you would think the negative stereotype of tattoos would no longer be there. Unfortunately, people with tattoos are still looked down upon and people still raise there noses up to them because of their body art.

With the above statistics growing practically yearly it is important for new 18 year olds to get a tattoo for the right reason. A tattoo is for you and you only. You should only get a tattoo if you want it and absolutely do not get inked if someone pressured you into or if you are trying to fit into a crowd. Tattoos are forever and it’s not very easy to get them removed. A typical laser removal session to get a tattoo taken off can cost up to $1,000 a session and some tattoos require 6 to 10 sessions for the tattoo removal to be effective. So you need to make darn sure that, that $75 to $100 tattoo you got when you were a teenager doesn’t turn into a $6,000 to $10,000 mistake later on down the road. In case you are wondering insurance does not cover laser tattoo removal. So be very wise about deciding if you truly want to get inked. Tattoos are forever.

FAQ About Tattoos

April 9, 2009 at 2:03 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

angie1There are a ton of questions that people have when it comes to tattoos and tattooing. Many people are not educated on the subject and are just plan curious, while others want to know what they are getting themselves into once they have decided to get a tattoo. Before you have decided to get a tattoo there are a few things that you should be aware of just so you have a better understanding of what to except, how to care for it, what not to do and what to do.

1. Does it hurt? This all really depends on you. Every person has a different pain tolerance so you may not experience any pain while another person getting a tattoo in the same location will. The only thing that is certain is that you will feel some pain and some discomfort. It may feel like you are being stung by several bees at once or it might feel like a hot scratching feeling. Just be prepared for a little discomfort.

2. Is it ok to get a tattoo when you are sick? This is a no brainier. When you are sick you immune system is not at 100% working order. You’re going to need your strength and your white blood cells to heal your tattoo, this is something  that your body won’t be able to do if it’s already trying to fight off a virus and or  bacteria. So that is a red flag not to get a tattoo. Having a good immune system is what helps heal your tattoo and fight off any unwanted germs. After all a tattoo is an open skin wound that can get infected like a cut.

3. How much do they cost? Tattoos do not come cheap and it really all depends on the size, shape, color and detail of your tattoo. Just be prepared to hand over a good chunk of change when getting a tattoo. Also never try to haggle with a tattoo artist, it is very disrespectful as well as rude.

4. Should I tip the artist? Yes you should. Believe it or not tattoo artist only be paid a percentage of every tattoo they do. It’s kind of like a water at a restaurant. They pretty much rely on their tips. So try to tip them anywhere from 10 to 20%.

5. I got a tattoo on my leg is it ok to shave? If you are a woman this is a great question. Your tattoo artist will shave the area before they give you the tattoo, but you should not shave you new tattoo until it is healed up usually any where from 5 to 10 days. However, it is ok to shave around your tattoo just not over your tattoo.

6. Is it ok to lay out in the sun or go to a tanning bed. This would be a big fat NO! The sun is a tattoos worst enemy. You should stay clear of the sun for several weeks after you get your tattoo.

Just keep in mind if you have any questions about the tattoo process or anything else feel free to ask your tattoo artist. They will be more than happy to answer your questions.
