It’s Ok To Make A Tattoo Mistake

November 18, 2008 at 3:45 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

We are all human and we all make mistakes because no one is perfect. So do not beat yourself up if you have made a tattoo mistake, because more people than you think are in the same boat as you. For instance, Angeline Jolie has made her fair share of tattoo mistakes. We all know about her infamous “Billy Bob” tattoo that was on her arm. Well after they divorced she got his name and that dragon lasered off of her arm.  Where that horrible tattoo once was are now the coordinates to where all six of her children were born. She has also gotten five other tattoos covered up by new tattoos.

If you find yourself regretting or wishing you had never gotten that tattoo you got, just think if Angelina Jolie can make more than one tattoo mistake than it is more than ok that I did. But to ensure that you do not make a tattoo mistake, there are a few things you should think about. First, don’t get a someones name tattooed on you unless it is a child’s name, your name, a pets name or a family members name. The reason for this is no matter how many laser removal sessions you go through you will still be able to faintly see that tattoo. Also be sure not to pick something childish out or something that might be a fad at the time. And the best advice to avoiding a tattoo mistake is by not being intoxicated when getting a tattoo. Also don’t go out and get a tattoo for the sake of getting a tattoo, you need to put some thought into it.

How Much To Tip A Tattoo Artist

November 17, 2008 at 1:13 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

dollarsign

A lot of people are not aware of the fact that you should indeed tip your tattoo artist. This is something that is not really advertised or talked about and unfortunately a lot of people are not ware of this, so many tattoo artists do go without getting tipped after tattooing someone. So if you are getting a new tattoo don’t forget to tip your tattoo artist. If you do not have any extra money explain this to them and try and stop by at another time and drop a little something off for them. Tattoo artist are like waitress, they rely on their tips to pay their bills. A tattoo artist is only paid a percentage of what you pay for the tattoo.

When it comes to tipping a tattoo artist the rule of thumb is to tip them anywhere from 10-20%. Of course you can be the judge on which percentage to tip them. If they did a great job with your tattoo, you were greeted when you walked in and they people there were helpful, and the artist was friendly and was willing to work with you then you should tip closer to 20%. But if you feel that they tattoo was done well but the people there were not very friendly, then tip 10%. But always always, leave a little something for the artist no matter how small of amount it maybe. Also no matter how small of a tattoo you get or if your tattoo only takes 10 minutes, you still need to leave something.

So when you are budgeting some money to get a tattoo besure to set a side something extra for a tip.

Why People Get Tattoos

November 15, 2008 at 4:08 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

dogtat

A lot of people probably do not understand the whole concept of wanting and getting a tattoo, especially if they do not have one themselves. There are numerous reasons why one may want to get a tattoo but to be honest every person’s reason is unique. So listen up all you non-tattooed people this may help give you a little insight on why people get tattoos.

First and foremost, there are probably a lot of people out there that can not explain their reasoning for getting a tattoo, expect for they just simply wanted one. However, there are many more than can give you an upfront straight answer to this question. Like, a lot of people like to get a tattoo to remind them of some stage in their life or to help them remember something special or important that has happened to them. Others get tattoos to express love or feelings about something. While many others get tattoos to remember loved ones or someone they have losed. Also some people just simply like the art of tattooing and think of tattoos as an accessory like a piece of jewelry or something to that effect. While others get tattoos to show that they belong to a certain group or organization.

In conclusion, people get tattoos for various reasons and most of them have nothing to do with being a hoodlum or a out of control, bad, stealing, person. So the next time you see someone with a tattoo, try not to judge them. Their tattoo more than likely represents something special or important that has happened in their life and you should not judge them. Like Thumper’s mother said, if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.

Covering Up A Tattoo

November 14, 2008 at 4:06 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

tattoocover

There are several reasons why one may want to get a current tattooed covered up. For one, there might be a misspelling of a word, which you should triple check before that tattoo gun comes on to make sure that doesn’t happen to you. Second, you have a tattoo that you got when you were younger and you have out grown it, or you have done the ultimate tattoo no-no and have gotten a lover’s name tattooed somewhere on your body and lastly you just simply regret getting whatever it was tattooed on you.

If you fall into any of these categories, than you pay close attention. You have the option of getting any regretful or unwanted tattoo covered up, however, there is one little catch. You will more than likely have to pick a a fairly large tattoo design to cover that thing up, which means a much bigger tattoo than you probably want to deal with. Which, also means you will be paying a lot more money for that mistake and may feel the cover up tattoo might be on the trashy side because of the much larger size. However, if you visit a good tattoo artist after they are done covering up that unwanted tattoo, you shouldn’t be able to tell there was an old tattoo there in the first place. Which can not be said if you get it removed.

So this just enforces everything that tattoo artist’s say. Be 1,000% positive that you are going to be ok with the tattoo design you have picked out and that you will be able to live with it forever. Otherwise, you will be finding yourself spending a lot more money than you probably wish to, to cover that ugly or regretful tattoo.

Affordable Tattoos

November 13, 2008 at 8:40 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

tattoodate

During these tough economic times and with people getting laid off everywhere, that tattoo industry has seen a bit of a slow down. Mainly, because people do not have that extra spending money that they once had. However, there are a few ways you can get around that high tattoo cost and still get a pretty descent tattoo. For starters, you should be aware that you get what you pay for when it comes to a tattoo. This can be said for plastic surgery also, so when considering to get a tattoo this isn’t something where you want to find the cheapest deal, because cheaper doesn’t necessarily mean better.

The first step that you can take to get an affordable tattoo is, by simply getting an initial tattooed somewhere on your body in black ink. Remember that black ink tattoos tend to be cheaper than the color ink tattoos. The second, suggestion for an affordable but good tattoo would to get a four leaf clover or shamrock somewhere, or a little star. Remember the smaller the tattoo and the less detail that is involved the cheaper the tattoo will be. By getting a tattoo of any of the following should not jeopardize the quality of your tattoo, mainly because they are small. Another really good idea for an affordable tattoo would be a number or specific date.

Just remember you can get around paying close to $100 for a tattoo if you pick your tattoo design wisely. Also please note that some of these suggestions may still cost around $50, but that is considered cheap in the tattoo industry. So if you are a tattoo lover and want to add a tattoo to your growing collection or are a first time tattooer, keep these suggestions in mind to help from breaking the bank when getting inked.

Celebrity Tattoos: Ashlee Simpson Wentz

November 12, 2008 at 4:07 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

ashleesimpsontat

At first glance Ashlee Simposon Wentz doesn’t really look like someone that would have a tattoo or six for that matter. Well in case you didn’t know Ashlee has at least six tattoos. This just goes to show that anyone can sport a tattoo and people not even notice, that is if they are tastefully done and they are small. Which most of Ashlee’s tattoos are small.

Here’s a list of Ashlee’s tattoos:

1. Love on her left wrist.

2. A star on her right wrist, which was later covered up by a big red rose with green leaves, that looks rather out of place.

3. Two small cherries on her heel.

4. The number three written under the word LOVE on her right wrist.

5. A peace sign on her middle right finger.

6. An unidentified red tattoo on her inner left ring finger.

Ashlee shared with everyone what her first and second tattoo was:

“The first tattoo I got was a star and I got that with a few of my best friends. I have that one when I finished my first record and I have ‘LOVE’ on my other hand when I finished my second record.”

Just in case you are wondering if Ashlee has any plans on getting any more tattoos in the near future, the answer to that question is yes. Ashlee wanted to get a tattoo that showed Pete how much she loved him and how proud she to be his wife. But since she unexpectedly got pregnant she is having to wait on adding another tattoo to her body. Apparently, Ashlee is planning on getting “ASW” tattooed on her shoulder. Which may or may not be such a good idea. After all marriages in Hollywood only last a few years.

Top Tattoo Mistakes

November 11, 2008 at 8:47 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

katvond2

It is quit apparent that some people do not make the best decisions when it comes to picking out a tattoo design. This is why a tattoo should not be an impulse buy and you should actually give it a lot of thought. Well wouldn’t be great if you had your own little tattoo artist or expert to talk to about what are the top tattoo mistakes that people make? Well you are in luck! Kat Von D and her crew at LA Ink have composed a list of the top five tattoo mistakes that people make. Hopefully, you can take what they say to heart and don’t end up having a tattoo mistake your self.

1. “Be careful not to get something too small or where it doesn’t fit that part of the body well.”

For instance getting a tiny tattoo in a bigger part of your body. But do not go overboard with the size either.

2. “Good tattoos aren’t cheap and cheap tattoos aren’t good. Far too many times, people choose an artist based on price. That should be the last priority on your list when it comes to getting a tattoo.”

 “Don’t look for a bargain!”

This is the best piece of advise out there. You honestly get what you pay for.

3. “Don’t be overly romantic. Sorry, that tattoo is going to out last most relationships — much as I hate to say it.”

“I don’t think lovers’ names are a good thing.”

This is another invaluable tip that everyone should pay close attention to. Getting a tattoo of a lover’s name often jinxes your relationship. So be careful.

4.  “Try not to be arbitrary or impulsive — you might regret getting Taz flipping the bird and drinking a beer later.”

Remember that tattoo you got maybe cool when you are young but as you age it may be more embarrassing.

5. “Biggest mistake … being drunk.”

“Being drunk leads to the other mistakes on the list.”

This is another great tip. You should not have any alcohol in your system when getting tattooed. It can cause the tattoo to come out bad due to the fact that you will bleed more.

Take these 5 great tips from LA Ink to heart when thinking about getting a tattoo and you should have no regrets later on down the road.

November 10, 2008 at 7:14 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , , )

We have all been taught that tattoos are forever. But if you realistically think about it, they really are not as permanent as you may think. If you have gotten a tattoo that your completely regret and want to endure the pain and the expense of laser tattoo removal than, yes you can get that tattoo removed.

However, there is a new dye in town, that is set to hit tattoo parlors all over the United States this fall. This new and improved dye as they are calling it has a great advantage. This new tattoo ink is permanent as well as removable.  This new ink is made by storing dye in microscopic capsules that will stay in the skin for good. But if you have a lover’s name tattooed on you and you break up or you simply have a tattoo that you may have out grown. You can now get it zapped away with a single laser treatment instead of the seven to fifteen painful and expensive treatments that are needed now for removal.

With the staggering number of young people from the age of 18 to 29 that are getting tattoos, there is bound to be a few that will regret one of their tattoo designs. So this new and improved ink is sure to be a great success with tattoo customers. Not to mention being able to save people time, money and pain is another great selling point to this new ink.

Please note you might want to ask the tattoo artist before you get inked if they are using the new improved ink, just to be on the safe side.

A Tattoo Saves A Women’s Life

November 10, 2008 at 6:18 pm (tattoo) (, , , , , , , , , )

tattoogun

To all of those people out there that simple hate tattoos and think they are a disgrace to your body, should listen up. A very lucky woman named Hailey Melnyk, may beg to differ. When Haliley was 18 years old she did what most 18 year olds do, she went and got a tattoo. Hailey had just finished an incredible journey through United States and Europe and to mark this great experience in her life she decided to get two swallows tattooed on her hips. Hailey decided to get these two swallows because of the old sailor’s tradition. Sailor’s got swallows tattoos on them symbolizing the crossing of two oceans.

The very next day, Hailey was having trouble breathing and noticed that her lymph nodes on her thighs were starting to become inflamed. Hailey went to the doctor immediately. And much to her dismay she had some tests done and found out that she had an advanced case of Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hailey has those two swallows to thank for saving her life. It turns out that the stress of getting a tattoo actually helped her cancer manifest itself, otherwise she would have continued going on with her life and would never have known anything was wrong until it was too late.

Hailey truly is thankful to her tattoos and is glad that she got them when she did.

“The (tattoos) were really something that really changed my life, both for the good and the bad. They were definitely the starting point of my new life … I just always wanted to testify my life on my body at that point.”

Hailey is now 25 years old and is cancer free. She has spent nearly 70 hours and $15,000 covering her thankful body in tattoos.
